PRE-CAST & TILT UP
In the 1980's, H&H Consulting Engineers participated in the introduction and subsequent development of the Tilt-Up Industry in Australia .
Tilt-Up construction is now used as the preferred method of construction on over 60% of industrial and regional shopping centres throughout Australia .
H&H Consulting Engineers also undertake overseas design and supervision with projects including various school sites in Malaysia, Precast/Tilt-Up accommodation and housing complexes in Brunei, and building works - Emerald International Golf Resort (design by Jack Nicholas and Arnold Palmer) in Jakarta .
What is Tilt-Up?
Tilt-Up is a method of construction that involves casting wall panels in a horizontal position on a floor slab or other suitably paved area, tilting them until vertical and moving them into final position.
Tilt-Up can be applied to the construction of a range of industrial, commercial and residential buildings including factories, warehouses, shopping centres, schools, offices, and sport facilities.
THE ADVANTAGE
There are a variety of advantages that come with utilising Tilt-Up technology: 1. Security & Safety
Tilt-Up panels provide the occupant with a safe and secure structure in which to house their business. Not only do the reinforced concrete walls provide protection from vandalism and theft, they also act as a shield against fire. Being non-combustible, and achieving 3 - 4 hour fire ratings, Tilt-Up panels are suited to erection on property boundaries and also as a barrier to limit fire spread.
2. Environmental Versatility & Control
Tilt-Up wall panels provide a number of advantages that can impact on the environmental aspects of any structure.
Interior walls have a flush finish, giving occupants a larger, cleaner space to work from. The concrete panels also provide excellent sound attenuation and can be designed to suit specific requirements for reductions in noise transmissions. Panel walls can also be designed for removal, allowing the occupant to extend easily in the future.
3. Maintenance
Concrete surfaces require minimal maintenance and resist impact damage.
4. Architecture
Tilt-up panels provide the architect with a flexible medium to create aesthetic and imaginative designs. Windows and doors can be cast within panels. A wide variety of possibilities for finishing, texturing and profiling of panels can be exploited. The character of buildings can be designed to suit intended occupancies.
5. Construction Expectations
Given proper pre-planning and site organisation, Tilt-Up construction can be a fast and easy method of building. Construction is at ground level, minimising handling of reinforcement and need for framework. Scaffolding needs are eliminated. There is a reduced need for skips and hoists, and an increased ability to bulk handle materials. The construction of a Tilt-Up structure needs only a small labour force, most of which consist of concretors.
6. Maximum Savings
More and more, Tilt-Up construction is being selected as the lowest cost method of construction. The reduced need for labour and equipment, Tilt-Up versatility, and its excellent security advantages, makes it an appealing technique for any investor who wishes to get the most for their money.
